Matt Mitchener is a writer, director, and editor specializing in narrative storytelling across film, television, and documentary. A graduate of NYU/Tisch’s Dramatic Writing program with a concentration in film and television, he’s a two-time Academy Nicholl Fellowship semifinalist. He co-founded Scheme Engine, where he has shaped creative direction, story editing, and narrative design for artists and brands including JAY-Z, Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Rihanna, Céline Dion, P!nk, and Romeo Santos. His feature credits include co-writing, co-directing, and editing Memes and Nightmares (Hulu, Tribeca 2024, executive produced by LeBron James), co-directing and editing The Blues Chase the Blues Away (Tribeca 2021), story producing the Magic City series for Starz, and editing The King of Bachata for HBO Max. Mitchener’s dual role as writer and editor allows him to guide stories from concept through the edit, ensuring a cohesive, cinematic vision across mediums.
